Press Release: Tucows acquires blogrolling.com

28 February, 2004 (05:28) | Work/Domains | By: Frank Michlick

From the press release section at the new corporate site, www.tucowsinc.com: Tucows acquires blogrolling.com. Looks like a nice expansion to our Blogware product and certainly a nice way to reach an additional userbase :)

Read more on it in the article in Ross’ blog at byte.org or in Accordion guy’s blog.

Who let the blogs out?

27 February, 2004 (17:47) | Work/Domains | By: Frank Michlick

We should really do a version of  the Baha Man’s Who Let the Dogs Out
and make it Who let the Blogs out instead. And then my wife was saying
that it should be “Moo” instead of mimicking the barking sound to
indicate that it was Tucows who let them out ;-) So where are the new T-Shirts…

So this is the type of idea you come up when you fly socalled “Low Cost” airlines across the country to visit a reseller.

scenestuff.com: back online

24 February, 2004 (20:49) | Work/Degap/Scenestuff.com | By: Frank Michlick

Scenestuff.com is back online and the new shipment of the Mindcandy demoscene DVD
should be in next week. I am also considering offering the Assembly 2003
DVD-ROM, but the Euro exchange rate is rather high at the moment and
they have a minimum order requirement, which seems a little high for
me, too. I still have quite a few of the Assembly 2002 DVD-ROMs sitteing around.

So while I was putting the site up again I upgraded SquirrelCart (the
software I am currently using) twice. Still there is no way in it to
split provincial and country-wide taxes, but I can live with that. I
even managed to set up some shipping rules that should work out fine,
even though it’s not as granular as it could be (Canada Post now also
does online rate quotes through an API).

If I wanted to open up the store to the US and possibly other
countries, I would not quite be so sure as how to set up the shipping
rules to adequately reflect my cost… However I have to admit, that I
can’t think a good solution, other than itengrating the online-quote
mechanism… But then, how do you estimate weight and size of the
packaging material.

A quick look at the leaked Win2k source code

19 February, 2004 (17:41) | Play | By: Frank Michlick

Are you are probably aware, large portions of the source code of Windows 2000 have leaked (wired news) out into the public space and p2p networks.
Kuro5hin features an article taking a look at the comments and the code: We Are Morons: a quick look at the Win2k source.

Another domain :)

I guess I can’t stop doing it… Yesterday I managed to grab the expired picturediary.com, which I think could be an excellent domain name for a Blogware site. We shall see :)

Child vaccines linked to disorders

5 February, 2004 (23:12) | Live | By: Frank Michlick

As the Edmonton Journal and other Canadian papers report Edmonton Child vaccines linked to disorders
such as Autism.

This supports my thinking not to believe in Vaccinations.
Thimerosal, the component under suspicion, apparently is a
mercury-based preservative. No who in their right mind would want to
base a preservative on mercury, since we all know about it’s danger and
effects.

In any case, a quick Google search brought up articles mentioning this
problem in 1999 and earlier. If it keeps on coming back, there might be
truth to it, no matter how much the industry denies. At least they have
banned the use of this preservative in other countries, even including
the US.

But in Canada they were still used for this year’s big
“get-your-flu-shot” campaign… Another conspiracy? ;-)
