eCommerce & Search Engines
In Google Optimization: E-Commerce @ $0 Cost (Part 1) (via www.marketingprofs.com) Brian Klais from Netconcepts writes about how many major eCommerce sites are not properly index in search engines due to their dynamic structe.
The introdution to the article is rather lengthy, if you want to cut to the important points jump to the part that is entitled “Objective No. 1: Being Visible”. This is really sound advise you can use. Basically you need to ensure fixed URLs that look like they are not scripted. You also have to ensure that the search engine spider will get to all products via links on your sites (no JavaScript, at least not exclusively, for navigation).
However I’d be careful about promoting too many external links to you site since Google is tweaking their search algorithm. But it does make sense to use the right keywords for the links within your site… Monitoring the traffic and adjusting the site accordingly also is a good idea.
Because if you want to have people find your store, you got to make sure that they will find the products in your store.
Wonder what’s going to be in part two of this article…
